About me
Born in India, at home in Aachen
Born in India, I came to Germany in 1973. After studying German and English Literature at RWTH Aachen (following a Bachelor's in English Literature in Kolkata), I began my career as a translator and interpreter.
My work spans government offices and courts as well as major companies like VW and Škoda. Weddings and diplomas are part of it too.
“I meet wonderful people and connect worlds.”
I am rarely on my own. My wife Kusum Nayar is an interpreter and translator as well, for German, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu. She regularly stands in for me at court hearings and other interpreting assignments. That way you can count on us even when one of us is already booked.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about interpreting and translation
-
The price always depends on the scope. For translations I look at the document first and then give you a binding quote; for interpreting assignments the scope of the appointment is what counts. Simply send me your document or describe your appointment. You will receive a quote before anything is commissioned.
-
Yes. Please send your document as a PDF by email. After looking at it I will give you a quote for price and timing.

Yes. Telephone interpreting is possible, for example for appointments with authorities or short consultations where being there in person is not necessary. Just give me a call to arrange it.

German, English, Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali and Urdu, in both directions. I am a sworn interpreter for English, Bengali, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu.
-
A sworn interpreter has been sworn in by a court and may interpret at hearings and before authorities. A certified translator is authorised to confirm the correctness and completeness of translations. These are the certified translations that authorities and courts require. I am sworn for English, Bengali, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu, and certified for English by the President of the Higher Regional Court Cologne, as well as for English-Hindi-Punjabi by the Regional Court Hannover.
-
Yes. As a court-certified translator I may certify translations, so they are accepted by authorities, courts, registry offices and universities. Documents such as birth and marriage certificates, driving licences, school certificates or penalty orders usually have to be submitted as certified translations.
-
Interpreting is spoken and happens live, for example at a court hearing, a police interview, a doctor's appointment or a business negotiation. Translating is written and concerns documents such as certificates, contracts or expert reports. I offer both.
